Michael Norris celebrates his victory during the second night of the Firecracker 100 on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Lernerville Speedway in Buffalo Township.

Dirt-track racing season will have to wait, as the coronavirus outbreak has halted another part of the local sports world.

Lernerville Speedway in Sarver canceled its opening-night festivities, which were scheduled for April 24.

Test and tune sessions scheduled for April 10 and 17 also were canceled.

“With respect to Governor Wolf’s recent extension of social distancing efforts and stay-home directives through April 30, and erring on the side of caution in terms of the health and safety of our employees, drivers, crews and fans, the Tomson Family will abide by these covid-19 provisions and, unfortunately, cancel all April events on the 2020 schedule,” the Tomson family said in a statement.

Ted Tomson and the Tomson family of Tomson Scrap Metals own and manage Lernerville Speedway.

Lernerville Speedway still is planning to host future weekly races, in addition to the 14th annual Firecracker 100 from June 25-27 and the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XXIX on July 21, but those events also are subject to change.

“Rest assured, you finest race fans in the world, that just as soon as our Governor drops the green flag, we will be dropping the green flag as well,” the Tomson family said.
