NHL linesman Ryan Jackson suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s Penguins-Canadiens game at PPG Paints Arena and is expected to be sidelined four-to-six weeks according to a league spokesperson.

The injury happened at 14:21 of the second period as Jackson tried to break up a scuffle between Penguins defenseman Jack St. Ivany and Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher.

Jackson fell to the ice and remained there for several minutes, holding his right knee. After Penguins medical staffers and Pittsburgh EMS paramedics attended to him, Jackson eventually left the ice with assistance from fellow on-ice officials.

His father, Dave Jackson, a former NHL referee who is now a rules analyst for ESPN, said Ryan Jackson suffered a dislocated knee cap as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Michael Farber.

The Penguins won the game, 4-3, in a shootout.
