There won’t be any Western Pennsylvania golfers in the 121st U.S. Open this month.
There were 11 players with local ties that played in Monday’s U.S. Open Sectionals across the country and their efforts came up short.
The players competed at five sites for the chance to participate in the U.S. Open on June 17-20 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.
The Bear’s Club, Jupiter, Fla. (qualifying score 142): Spencer Mellon, Oakmont, 153; Steven Wheatcroft, Washington, withdrew.
Woodmont Country Club, Rockville. Md. (qualifying score 130): Connor Schmidt, Venetia, 155; Louis Olsakovsky, Pittsburgh, 157.
Brookside Golf and Country Club, Columbus, Ohio (qualifying score 139): Jimmy Ellis, Venetia, 143; Jason Li, Sewickley, 143; Sam Saunders, Latrobe, 146; Palmer Jackson, Murrysville, 148; Benjamin Huber, Allison Park, 156.
Springfield Country Club, Springfield, Ohio (qualifying score 137): Jack Sollon, Venetia, 161.
Piedmont Driving Club, Atlanta (qualifying score 136): Michael Van Sickle, Pittsburgh, 150.
