Franklin Regional’s Palmer Jackson chips onto the green on Hole 13 during the PIAA West Region Golf Championships Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

Household names in local golf are on their way to carrying that same status at major college programs.

Notre Dame freshman Palmer Jackson and West Virginia junior Mark Goetz led their teams to victory Tuesday.

Jackson, a Franklin Regional graduate who has quickly taken to Division I golf, dropped a few spots in the individual leaderboard but still managed a 3-under 210 over three rounds to post his second top-10 finish of the season at the Fighting Irish Classic.

Notre Dame finished at 16-under to edge North Carolina by one shot and post its third win of the season in four tournaments.

Jackson has posted four rounds in the 60s and averaged 70.9 in 12 rounds this season.

He opened the Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course (Ind.) with a career-low 66 and followed with a 69 before posting 75 in the final round.

Goetz, meantime, a graduate of The Kiski School and a Greensburg native, shot 71, 74 and 70 to tie for second at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational (1-under 215) on Tuesday at Pete Dye Golf Club Bridgeport, W. Va.

It was the best individual finish of his college career.

The Mountaineers finished at even par, three strokes better than Florida.

Jackson and Goetz are members at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.

Men’s soccer

Pitt: Redshirt freshman Anthony Harding (Norwin) scored his first collegiate goal on his first shot attempt as Pitt defeated Howard, 6-0.
