Duquesne sophomore guard Maceo Austin rejoined his teammates at practice Sunday after missing the past three games while taking a leave of absence for personal reasons, coach Keith Dambrot said.

“We are glad to have him back,” Dambrot said. “It means a lot.”

Austin probably won’t play Wednesday against Rhode Island while Dambrot eases him back into the rotation.

“I just want to bring him along and get him acclimated,” he said.

Austin, who helped lead Kennedy Catholic to four consecutive PIAA championships and was 6A player of the year in 2019, started 29 games as a freshman for the Dukes last season, averaging seven points and four rebounds per game. Through four starts this season, his averages are 4.8 and 4.8.

After the Rhode Island game Wednesday at La Roche, the Dukes (3-5, 2-4 Atlantic 10) aren’t scheduled to play again until Jan. 27 at Fordham.
