Manager Tom Vaeth, Wild Things agree to 4-year extension

The Washington Wild Things announced Wednesday that manager Tom Vaeth has agreed to a four-year extension through the 2025 campaign.

In his first season this past summer, Vaeth led the Wild things to their seventh division championship and fourth trip to the Frontier League Championship Series.

“I’m very pleased to have signed an extension with the Wild Things,” Vaeth said in a news release. “I’m very thankful that management thought enough of the job I did last year to warrant an extension. I really enjoyed my first year, and I look forward to seeing how much we can grow together as an organization over the next four years. … We will work hard every year to chase that first championship.”

Washington finished 56-40 last season and fell to Schaumburg in the FLCS.

Before becoming the 10th manager in Wild Things history last winter, Vaeth spent time managing in the California Winter League and also served on an interim basis in Winnipeg, which is where he spent most of his coaching career. For 17 years, Vaeth served as an assistant for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association.

“We were really appreciative of Tom’s efforts as a first-year manager and his dedication to build upon on our continued success as an organization,” vice president and general manager Tony Buccilli said in a statement. “Leading the club through the challenges of a baseball season is never easy, and the adversity of the group he oversaw was commendable. We look forward to Tom’s growing role in the organization and within the community during our 20th anniversary season and beyond.”

The Wild Things open the 2022 season May 13.
