Marc-Andre Fleury moves into 3rd place on all-time wins list
When Alex Pietrangelo scored at 1:53 of overtime Wednesday night, giving the Vegas Golden Knights a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild, goalie Marc-Andre Fleury moved up a notch on the NHL’s all-time wins list.
Fleury made 26 saves and took over sole possession of the No. 3 spot past Roberto Luongo with career win No. 490.
“I’m pretty honored to have a chance to play enough and play with such a great team that allowed me to catch him,” said Fleury, who has been on a strict rotation with Robin Lehner with the Golden Knights.
Moving any further up the wins list won’t be easy.
The top spot, held by Martin Brodeur with 691, looks to be untouchable. Patrick Roy is No. 2 with 551 wins.
Picking up 61 more wins would be difficult but not completely out of the question for the 36-year-old Fleury, who has one year left on his contract with the Golden Knights.
This season, Fleury is 24-10-0 with 2.07 goals-against average and .926 save percentage, numbers that place him among the league’s top goaltenders.
Fleury recorded 375 of his 490 wins in 13 seasons with the Penguins.
