Pitt junior catcher Tatem Levins was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the eighth round of the MLB Draft on Monday, earning the distinction of the Panthers’ highest draft choice since 2018.

In the process, Pitt coach Mike Bell can add another name to his resume. Levins is the 94th drafted player Bell has coached in his career.

Levins (the 246th player selected overall) is also the 65th Pitt player drafted all-time, and the second by the Mariners, joining Danny Lopez (17th round, 2010).

During the 2022 season, Levins compiled a team-high .321 batting average after transferring from La Salle. He also led the team in hits (68), extra base hits (27), home runs (16), RBIs (53), OPS (1.048), slugging percentage (.613) and hit by pitch (12).
