Two-sport athlete Claire Oberdorf, who just finished a decorated career at Marist, is among 259 Division I nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Athletes from Division II and II also are eligible, with 126 and 220 nominees for those divisions.
Of all the nominees, 128 played multiple sports. Oberdorf was a standout in softball and basketball.
A Greensburg Salem graduate, Oberdorf joins eight others from the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference on the ballot. Conference officials were to choose two athletes from their league and present the names to the NCAA selection committee, which will narrow the list to 30 — 10 from each division.
Nine finalists — three from each division — will be announced before the winner is named in the fall.
Oberdorf was Marist’s Female Co-Sportsperson of the Year, and was also was a recipient of the Advantage Strength & Conditioning Award. In softball, her list of accolades includes National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 10 Freshman, MAAC Rookie of the Year, a first team All-MAAC honors in 2016 and a three-time All-MAAC Tournament pick.
She finished in the top 10 in the program in five stat categories.
Oberdorf, who played third base, second base and catcher, had a .379 batting average, 16 runs, three home runs and 14 RBIs for the Red Foxes (10-9) before the covid-19 outbreak trampled out the spring season.
In basketball, she played in 97 games and was a key contributor in the backcourt.
She also made the All-MAAC academic team four times.
