Mark Madden, Tim Benz on Penguins replacing Jake Guentzel, Matt Murray’s goaltending, Patriots loss
This week’s “Madden Monday” with Mark Madden features Penguins talk at first. And there is a lot to get to on that front.
The Penguins have gotten three points over their three games since Jake Guentzel’s injury. A win. A loss. And an overtime defeat. But are they hitting a wall now that the man-games lost continue to pile up? Mark seems to think so. He’ll tell you why.
Kris Letang had a rough weekend. And a lot of Penguins fans are unhappy with his play. What can be done about it? Very little. We talk about that dynamic as well.
Then there is the goaltending. Matt Murray was good in his win against Montreal on Friday. But it was really tough to pin either defeat this week on Tristan Jarry. So we debate whether any movement is occurring on the goalie front. Because if some fans are expecting that, it may not happen.
We also kick around the potential trade candidates to replace Guentzel. There may be an on-ice reason to stay away from Florida’s Mike Hoffman. An off-ice reason to avoid New York’s Chris Kreider. And a financial reason to say “thanks, but not thanks” to Brandon Saad.
In NFL news, we look at the demise of the Patriots, the future of Tom Brady, the continued spiral of Antonio Brown, and the ironic loss by the New Orleans Saints.
All that plus 95-year-old Penguins fans, annoying hockey signs, Cobra Kai, and more.
