Mark Madden's Hot Take: Shedeur Sanders' hype will continue to dominate NFL media
Shedeur Sanders is a Cleveland Brown.
That was likely at the behest of the owner and will be to the detriment of the coach.
Kevin Stefanski will have daddy Deion in his ear, looking over his shoulder, bashing him, undermining him, perhaps even replacing him if the con goes perfectly. “Deion can get the most out of Shedeur!”
The Sanders family is a victim of nothing but their own hubris.
But, as per our political landscape, the media has chosen sides in a situation where neutrality is traditionally required. Impartiality would let this fizzle out.
Instead, the Shedeur hype train is just getting started.
Shedeur will be the NFL’s biggest story in 2025.
I mean that very literally. THE. BIGGEST.
The Shedeur saga will be reported on constantly, as in every day. Even when there’s nothing new to discuss, and especially when there’s nothing new to discuss.
My profession doesn’t report the news anymore. It chooses what’s news.
The Browns will stumble, because they stink. There will be a demand for Shedeur to start. “Is this the week?” His practice snaps will be dissected. If he plays and fails, that will get blamed on somebody else.
Kenny Pickett’s career will get trampled. Again. (That’s mostly been his fault.)
Dillon Gabriel is the innocent victim. He was drafted in the third round. Shedeur went in the fifth. But here’s betting Shedeur gets more opportunity immediately.
If Joe Flacco is lucky, he’ll get cut.
Deshaun Watson won’t play but keeps collecting on his $230 million guaranteed.
Deion will babble, rally his stooges in the media and be insufferable.
It’s an ensemble cast. But Shedeur is the star.
To repeat: This will be a topic EVERY DAY ALL SEASON on shows like ESPN’s “Get Up” and “First Take,” and on Fox Sports’ “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
It will be saturation to the point of nausea. About a fifth-round pick. Why did he drop? That question won’t ever be allowed to be answered.
I wrote this, so I’m no better.
