'Medical situation' sidelines Pitt center Dishon Jackson indefinitely, Panthers announce
Pitt center Dishon Jackson is out indefinitely as he deals with an unspecified medical condition, the Panthers announced Wednesday.
Declining to offer any additional comment, Pitt released a statement on behalf of Jackson.
“I’ve appreciated the concern and outreach recently,” Jackson said. “I’ve been dealing with a medical issue for years and because of my family and support system, I’ve always managed to get through it and come out on the other end of it better. While I’m currently away from my team and basketball family, I am focused on getting back to full health. I am grateful for the support from my coaches, teammates and everyone who’s been with me through this.”
Jackson (6-foot-11) is entering his sixth season of collegiate competition, having joined Jeff Capel’s program from Iowa State in the offseason.
Jackson started 33 of 35 games last season for the Cyclones, scoring 8.5 points per game with 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks, shooting 58% from the floor.
Previously, he played at Charlotte (2023-24), averaging 11.4 points and 6.1 boards. The Oakland, Calif., native played his first three seasons at Washington State from 2020-23.
The 2022-23 campaign at Wazzu saw Jackson as a non-participant because of “managing a health-related issue.”
As a freshman with the Cougars, he played in 24 games, starting 13, and suited up for 25 in 2021-22.
Jackson arrived at Pitt along with former Iowa State teammate Nojus Indrusaitis, a 6-5 guard. Together, along with Barry Dunning Jr. (South Alabama) and Damarco Minor (Oregon State), they composed Capel’s transfer-portal additions ahead of this season.
Kieran Mullen, a freshman from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is the other center on Pitt’s roster.
