Miami FC stakes claim for 2nd place in division with comeback win over Riverhounds
Miami FC staged a furious comeback in the final 10 minutes of regulation, scoring twice to record a 3-2 victory and deal a blow to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ chances of finishing in second place in the USL Championship’s Atlantic Division.
Miami (14-7-6) and Pittsburgh (14-8-6) are tied for second place, but Miami has a game in hand. The Riverhounds are 0-2-1 against Miami this season despite holding a lead in the 45th minute or later in all three meetings.
Kenardo Forbes scored both goals for the Riverhounds, who will play three of their final four matches at home, starting with a visit from first-place Tampa Bay to Highmark Stadium on Oct. 10.
Forbes gave the Riverhounds a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game when Alex Dixon chipped a pass ahead for him on the right side of the box, and he buried a shot from a bad angle approaching the right post.
The lead didn’t last a minute, as Miami’s Lamar Walker volleyed in a long, bouncing pass to make it 1-1.
The Riverhounds took their second lead in the 66th minute when Tommy Williamson sent a cross from the left wing to Forbes at the right post for a header into the net.
Miami tied the score again in the 83rd minute on a left-footed rocket from Othello Bah from the top of the box.
The game-winner came into the 90th minute. Christiano Francois sent a long diagonal pass ahead to Pierre Da Silva on the left wing and he buried a shot inside the far corner.
