Mike Tomlin: Steelers will ‘create a little pressure’ in camp for Chris Boswell
Conventional wisdom is Chris Boswell only can regain the trust of the Pittsburgh Steelers while performing in game situations.
“In the stadiums,” as coach Mike Tomlin likes to say.
Tomlin, however, disagrees. He believes the Steelers can challenge their five-year kicker on the practice fields of Saint Vincent.
“We’re going to create a little pressure,” Tomlin said to a question about Boswell.
Long a proponent of holding his team’s camp in the setting of the bucolic Unity campus, Tomlin said Boswell will be motivated to perform even outside of the Steelers’ preseason games.
“I think you underestimate this environment if you say it’s pressure-free,” Tomlin said during a news conference at Benedict Hall. “This is a highly competitive, pressure-filled setting. That’s the nature of NFL camps, and I don’t think specialists are exempt from that.”

If Boswell doesn’t feel the pressure from Tomlin, perhaps he will from his bank account: Boswell will receive a $2 million roster bonus if he’s kept on the roster through the end of the preseason.
The Steelers also signed Matthew Wright as an undrafted rookie from UCF with the idea he would compete with Boswell in camp.
Boswell missed seven field goals and five extra points in 15 games last season.
