Minkah Fitzpatrick remains in concussion protocol but took an important step toward receiving medical clearance Wednesday when he was a full practice participant for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The two-time All-Pro safety played every defensive snap last Thursday in the 29-17 loss at Cleveland but reported concussion symptoms after the game.

Fitzpatrick has missed just one game in his five NFL seasons, and that was last season at the Los Angeles Chargers when he was on the reserve/covid list.

The only Steelers player withheld from practice Wednesday was cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who injured his hamstring in the loss at Cleveland. James Pierre is listed as Witherspoon’s backup on the depth chart, but Levi Wallace subbed for Witherspoon in Cleveland and likely would start Sunday against the New York Jets if Witherspoon is unable to play.

Left guard Kevin Dotson (ankle) and punter Pressley Harvin III (left hip) were full practice participants.
