Minor league report: Corey Andonovski leads Penguins to overtime win

A goal at 1:17 of overtime by forward Corey Andonovski gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 4-3 home win against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Forwards Austin Rueschhoff and Radim Zohorna each had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (33-22-8-1) while forward Avery Hayes also contributed a goal.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 23 saves on 26 shots to boost his record to 22-10-6-1.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Cleveland Monsters on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 16 saves on 19 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 overtime road loss to the Cincinnati Cylcones at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

The result dropped Castor’s record to 7-4-1.

Forward Peter Laviolette II recorded two assists for Wheeling (35-28-3-1) while forward Justin McRae and defenseman Thimo Nickl each contributed a goal.

Highlights:

Cyclones forwards Kyle Bollers, Josh Burnside and Elijah Gonsalves as well as defensemen Landon Cato and Jalen Smereck started the contest. According to Flo Hockey, it is believed to be the first time in professional hockey that a team deployed a starting lineup of five people of color at the non-goaltending positions.

The Nailers’ next game is a road game against the Indy Fuel on Wednesday, 7 p.m.
