Minor league report: Filip Hallander’s hat trick leads Penguins past Islanders

A hat trick by forward Filip Hallander led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-3 road win against the Bridgeport Islanders at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. on Saturday.

Forward Drew O’Connor had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (22-21-2-4) while defenseman Juuso Riikola contributed two assists. Goaltender Tommy Nappier made 28 saves on 31 shots in the victory.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Syracuse Crunch, 3:05 p.m.

Two goals and three assists by forward Patrick Watling helped the Wheeling Nailers rout the Kalamazoo Wings, 8-2, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forward Justin Almeida had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (29-19-1-0) while defenseman Josh Maniscalco contributed three assists. Goaltender Stefanos Lekkas made 40 saves on 42 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers next game is a road contest against the Toledo Walleye on Wednesday, 7:15 p.m.
