Minor league report: Forward Valtteri Puustinen leads Penguins past Islanders

Two goals by forward Valtteri Puustinen led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 3-1 home win against the Bridgeport Islanders at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 28 saves on 29 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-16-2-3) while forward Ty Glover added a goal.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Defenseman Adam Smith had a goal and two assists for the Wheeling Nailers in a 6-2 road win against the Kansas City Mavericks at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Mo.

Forward Cedric Desruisseaux contributed a goal and an assist for Wheeling (19-17) while defenseman Louie Roehl recorded two assists. Goaltender Brad Barone made 18 saves on 20 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Iowa Heartlanders on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
