Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic scored a goal for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 road win against the Providence Bruins at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. on Friday.

The goal happened at 18:56 of the third period on an empty net after the Bruins pulled goaltender Brandon Bussi for an extra attacker.

The score allowed Nedeljkovic to become the first goaltender in American Hockey League history to score two goals. He previously scored as a member of the Charlotte Checkers in a 7-3 home win against the Hartford Wolf Pack on March 10, 2018.

Additionally, Nedeljkovic has scored a goal at the ECHL level. During a 5-3 road win against the Atlanta Gladiators on Dec. 30, 2016, he potted a score on an empty net:

Nedeljkovic made 17 saves on 19 shots in his first AHL start of the season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins sent Nedeljovic to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday for a conditioning assignment. He is currently designated to long-term injured reserve at the NHL level due to a suspected left knee injury he suffered Oct. 24. He is eligible to rejoin the active NHL roster on Sunday.

Rookie defenseman John Ludvig was also sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning assignment. Also injured on Oct. 24, Ludvig (concussion) recorded one shot in his debut for the AHL Penguins.

Forward Valtteri Puustinen and defenseman Ty Smith each scored conventional goals and recorded assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (7-5-2) while forward Jagger Joshua also contributed a goal.

Highlights:

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Bruins on Saturday, 7:05 p.m.

Forward Cédric Desruisseaux scored the lone goal for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 road loss to the Indy Fuel at the Indiana Famers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Goaltender Michael McNiven made 14 saves on 17 shots as his record fell to 2-1-0 for Wheeling (6-4-0-0).

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday, 5 p.m.
