Minor league report: Goaltender Joel Blomqvist leads Penguins past Checkers
Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made a career-best 44 saves on 45 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 road win against the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday.
The win boosted Blomqvist’s record to 6-3-1 while forwards Jonathan Gruden and Valtteri Puustinen each contributed a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (9-7-2). Forwards Raivs Ansons and Joona Koppanen also scored goals for the Penguins:

Goaltender Michael McNiven made 30 saves on 36 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 6-2 home loss to the Iowa Heartlanders at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
McNiven’s record dropped to 2-2-0 while defenseman Isaac Belliveau recorded two assists for Wheeling (7-7-0-0). Forwards Tanner Laderoute and Evan Vierling scored the Nailers’ goals.
The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Heartlanders on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
