Minor league report: Goaltender Magnus Hellberg, Penguins beaten by Checkers

Goaltender Magnus Hellberg made 24 saves on 29 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-3 road loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday.

The result dropped Hellberg’s record to 1-2-0. Defenseman Ty Smith had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-7-2-0) while forwards Cedric Desruisseaux and Jonathan Gruden each contributed goals.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Checkers on Saturday, 4 p.m.


Forward Dillon Hamaliuk scored each of the Wheeling Nailers’ goals in a 5-2 road loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 21 saves on 24 shots as his record fell to 3-3-0 for Wheeling (7-6-0-0) which has lost three of its past four games.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Iowa Heartlanders on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
