Minor league report: Joel Blomqvist, Penguins lose to Bruins

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 18 saves on 22 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-1 home loss to the Providence Bruins at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 6-4-2 while forward Alex Nylander scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (11-9-3-0).

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.


In his season debut, goaltender Jaxon Castor made 33 saves on 38 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-2 home loss to the Tulsa Oilers at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Defenseman Justin Lee and forward Matthew Querica each scored goals for Wheeling (10-10-1-0).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Oilers on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
