Minor league report: Joel Blomqvist's winning streak snapped as Penguins fall in overtime

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 37 saves on 40 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Providence Bruins at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence R.I. on Friday.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 37 saves on 40 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Providence Bruins at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. on Friday.

The result snapped a five-game winning streak for Blomqvist and dropped his record to 11-4-3. Forward Sam Poulin and defenseman Ty Smith each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (18-12-5-0) while forward Peter Abbandonato and Vinnie Hinostroza each contributed two assists.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Bridgeport Islanders on Saturday, 7 p.m.


Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 26 saves on 30 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-2 home loss to the Indy Fuel at the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The result dropped Gauthier’s record to 9-9-1. Forwards Justin Addamo and Evan Vierling each scored goals for Wheeling (16-14-1-1).

The Nailers’ next game is a home game against the Fuel on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
