Forward Jonathan Gruden and defenseman Dmitri Samorukov each had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 home win against the Bridgeport Islanders at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Goaltender Magnus Hellberg made 31 saves on 32 shots and boosted his record to 9-7-2 while forwards Matt Filipe and Jagger Joshua each contributed goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (27-18-7-1).

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Charlotte Checkers on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 23 saves on 24 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 2-1 home win against the Kalamazoo Wings at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The result was Gauthier’s league-best 20th win of the season (20-12-1).

Forward Evan Vierling recorded two assists for Wheeling (30-19-1-1) while forward Jordan Frasca and defenseman Justin Lee each contributed a goal.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Wings on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
