Minor league report: Jonathan Gruden scores twice in Penguins’ win

Two goals by forward Jonathan Gruden led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 3-1 home win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms in Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Defenseman Matt Bartkowski, a native of Mt. Lebanon, recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre (31-27-4-4) while forward Sam Poulin contributed a goal, his 10th in the past 14 games. Goaltender Louis Domingue made 30 saves on 31 shots in the victory.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, 7 p.m.

Two goals by forward Matthew Querica helped the Wheeling Nailers claim a 6-4 road win against the Iowa Heartlanders at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.

Forwards Sam Houde and Patrick Watling each had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (34-28-4-0) while forward Cedric Desruisseaux contributed three assists. Goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon made 28 saves on 32 shots in the victory.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Indy Fuel on Friday, 7 p.m.
