Minor league report: Joona Koppanen leads Penguins past Comets

Forward Joona Koppanen had two goals and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 win against the Utica Comets at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y. on Friday.

Defenseman Matt Dumba and forward Atley Calvert both recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-7-1-0) while forwards Tristan Broz and Boko Imama both scored goals.

Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 23 saves on 25 shots and boosted his record to 9-2-0.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Comets on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.


Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 13 saves on 16 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-0 loss to the Greensboro Gargoyles at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.

The result dropped Gauthier’s record to 2-1-0 and marked the first time Wheeling (19-6-1-0) has been shut out this season.

Greensboro goaltender Ruslan Khazheyev stopped 34 shots in the victory.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Gargoyles on Saturday, 7 p.m.
