Minor league report: Owen Pickering debuts in Penguins loss

Goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 25 saves on 28 shots in a 4-2 road loss to the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center in Allentown on Friday.

Forward Drake Caggiula and defenseman Ty Smith each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (25-28-6-6) while forward Valtteri Puustinen contributed two assists.

Defenseman Owen Pickering, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first-round pick (No. 21 overall), made his American Hockey League debut with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording one shot in the contest.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.

Goaltender Brad Barone made 32 saves on 35 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-1 road loss to the Indy Fuel at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Forward Samuel Tremblay scored the lone goal for Wheeling (26-34-5-0), which has lost four of the past five games.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday, 7:35 p.m.
