Minor league report: Penguins beaten by Crunch

Forward Joona Koppoanen had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-2 road loss to the Syracuse Crunch at Upstate Medical University Arena in Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday.

Defenseman Xavier Ouellet recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (31-21-8-1) while forward forward Austin Rueschhoff contributed a goal.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 30 saves on 33 shots as his record slipped to 20-10-6-1.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Utica Comets on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.


Goaltender Garret Sparks made 20 saves on 24 shots in his debut for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-3 home loss to the Kalamazoo Wings at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forard Matt Koopman, Jordan Martel and Evan Vierling all scored goals for Wheeling (34-25-2-1).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
