A pair of goals by forward Aidan McDonough led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 4-1 win against the Cleveland Monsters at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Forward Atley Calvert contributed a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (44-16-7-2) while defenseman Alex Alexeyev recorded two assists.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist boosted his record to 15-5-4 after making 25 saves on 26 shots.

Highlights:

Earlier in the day, the Penguins secured second place in the Atlantic Division, thanks to the Hershey Bears claiming a 2-1 road win against the Charlotte Checkers. With second place, the Penguins will get a bye in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Two goals by forward Ryan McAllister sparked the Wheeling Nailers to a 6-2 win against the Reading Royals at Santander Arena in Reading.

Defenseman Brent Johnson and forward Tiernan Shoudy each contributed a goal and an assist for Wheeling (45-18-3-3) while defenseman David Breazeale recorded two assists.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier stopped 16 of 18 shots, improving his record to 21-8-5.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Royals on Sunday, 3 p.m.
