Minor league report: Penguins fall in shootout, Nailers' winning streak reaches 11

Forward Vinnie Hinostroza had a goal in regulation and two assists for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center in Allentown on Friday.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 27 saves on 31 shots in regulation and overtime as his record slipped to 14-7-4.

Forward Jonathan Gruden recorded three assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (24-16-6-1) while forward Alex Nylander contributed a goal and an assist.

Highlights:

According to the team’s radio broadcast, Penguins forwards Marc Johnstone and Sam Poulin were scratched due to undisclosed injuries. Earlier in the day, forwards Dillon Hamaliuk and Lukas Svejkovsky were recalled from Wheeling of the ECHL.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday, 11 a.m.


A goal at 3:21 of overtime by forward Justin Addamo gave the Wheeling Nailers a 2-1 home win against the Reading Royals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The victory was the Nailers’ 11th consecutive, one short of the franchise’s record of 12 since moving to Wheeling in 1992.

Forward Peter Laviolette also scored for Wheeling (27-16-1-1) while goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 23 saves on 24 shots, boosting his record to 17-11-1.

Highlights:

During the 2003-04 season, the Nailers won 12 consecutive games between Feb. 20-March 10.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Royals on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
