Minor league report: Penguins fall, Nailers clinch playoff berth

Forward Filip Hallander scored the only goal for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 home loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Goaltender Louis Domingue made 25 saves on 28 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (31-29-4-4).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Two goals by forward Cam Hausinger led the Wheeling Nailers to a 3-2 road win against the Kalamazoo Wings at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The victory secured a playoff berth for the Nailers, who have not appeared in the postseason since 2016 when they reached the Kelly Cup Final.

Forward Tim Doherty and Josh Maniscalco each recorded two assists for Wheeling (37-29-4-0) while goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon made 35 saves on 37 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game will be their regular season home finale against the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
