Minor league report: Penguins fall to Bruins, Nailers drop Game 1

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made a season-high 43 saves on 46 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 loss to the Providence Bruins at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 8-6-3.

Forwards Emil Bemstrom and Atley Calvert each scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (39-23-7-1).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Friday, 7 p.m.


The Wheeling Nailers were shut out by the Norfolk Admirals, 4-0, in Game 1 of a North Division semifinal series at the Norfolk (Va.) Scope.

Wheeling goaltender Sergei Murashov made 25 saves on 28 shots in the defeat.

His counterpart, Norfolk’s Thomas Milic, stopped all 29 shots he faced.

Highlights:

Game 2 at Norfolk is scheduled for Thursday, 7 p.m.
