Minor league report: Penguins fall to Checkers

Goaltender Filip Lindberg made 18 saves on 21 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-1 road loss to the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday.

Lindberg replaced goaltender Taylor Gauthier to open the second period for reasons that were not certain. Gauthier stopped all five shots he faced in 20 minutes of action.

Forward Jonathan Gruden scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (17-11-2-3).

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Checkers on Sunday, 4 p.m.

Forward Cédric Desruisseaux had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-3 overtime home loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Defenseman Davis Bunz recorded two assists for Wheeling (17-16-2-0) while goaltender Brad Barone made 32 saves on 36 shots in the defeat.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
