Minor league report: Penguins fall to Crunch, 4-3

Forwards Riley Barber and Cole Cassels each had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-3 road loss to the Syracuse Crunch at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday.

Forward Phil Varone recorded two assists for the Penguins (27-23-3-5) who have lost three consecutive games. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 25 save in the defeat.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is on the road against the rival Hershey Bears at the Giant Center in Hershey on Saturday, 7 p.m.

Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 24 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 home loss to the Maine Mariners at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Forwards Jan Drozg, a fifth-round pick of the Penguins in 2017, and Brandon Hawkins each scored goals for the Nailers who have lost five of their past six games.

The Nailers’ next game is at home against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday, 7:05 p.m.
