Minor league report: Penguins fall to Phantoms

Goaltender Filip Larsson made 23 saves on 25 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-1 loss to the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Sun Arena in Allentown on Friday.

The result dropped Larsson’s record to 10-7-3.

Forward Rutger McGroarty scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (32-17-7-1).

Highlights:

Earlier in the day, Pittsburgh Penguins defensive prospect Chase Pietila signed an amateur tryout contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the remainder of the season. He was scratched for the game.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Phantoms on Sunday, 3:05 p.m.


Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 33 saves on 34 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-1 win against the Fort Wayne Komets at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The result boosted Gauthier’s mark to 11-9-2.

Forwards Matty de St. Phalle, David Jankowski and Kyle Jackson all scored goals for Wheeling (33-20-3-1).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Komets on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
