Minor league report: Penguins fight off Phantoms

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 34 saves on 35 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-1 road win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center in Allentown on Sunday.

The result boosted Blomqvist’s record to 21-10-6-1.

Forward Radim Zohorna recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (32-22-8-1) while defensemen Taylor Fedun, Xavier Ouellet and forward Vinnie Hinostroza all contributed goals.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Phantoms on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.


Forward Jordan Martel had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 home loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Goaltender Garret Sparks made 17 saves on 20 shots as his record fell to 0-2-0 while forward Matt Koopman also scored a goal for Wheeling (32-22-8-1).

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Toledo Walleye on Friday, 7:15 p.m.
