Minor league report: Penguins, Filip Lindberg beat Checkers in shootout

Shootout goals by forwards Alex Nylander and Lukas Svejkovsky gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 road win against the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday.

Nylander and defenseman Mitch Reinke each recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (18-11-2-3) while goaltender Filip Lindberg made 29 saves on 31 shots in regulation and overtime then stopped two of three shots in the shootout to get his first victory since Dec. 9.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Forwards Carter Johnson and Brooklyn Kalmikov each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 overtime home loss to the Kalamazoo Wings at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Goaltender Bailey Brkin made 15 saves on 18 shots for Wheeling (17-16-3-0).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Wings on Saturday, 7 p.m.
