Minor league report: Penguins, forward Valtteri Puustinen beat Checkers

A goal and an assist by forward Valtteri Puustinen led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-2 road win against the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday.

Forward Filip Hallander recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-5-1-1) while forwards Drew O’Connor, Sam Poulin, Tyler Sikura and defenseman Mark Friedman all contributed goals. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 31 saves on 33 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Defenseman Josh Maniscalco and forward Felix Pare each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-2 home win against the Indy Fuel at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forward Cedric Desruisseaux recorded two assists for Wheeling (6-7-0-0) while goaltender Tommy Nappier made 22 saves on 24 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday, 7 p.m.
