Minor league report: Penguins, Joel Blomqvist beaten by Bears

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 12 saves on 16 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-2 loss to the rival Hershey Bears at the PPL Center in Hershey on Saturday.

The result was Blomqvist’s first loss of the season, dropping his record to 3-1-0.

Sergei Murashov replaced Blomqvist to open the third period and stopped six of seven shots.

Forward Gabe Klassen and defenseman Jack St. Ivany scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (15-5-1-0), which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


A goal and four assists by forward Craig Armstrong led the Wheeling Nailers to an 8-3 rout of the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. The result extended a winning streak to four games.

Forward Randy Hernandez had two goals and two assists for Wheeling (14-3-0-0) while forward Mike Posma added a goal and two assists.

Goaltender Jake Smith made 26 saves on 29 shots and remained undefeated on the season at 7-0-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Cyclones on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
