Minor league report: Penguins, Joel Blomqvist beaten by Islanders

In his season debut at the American Hockey League level, goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 29 saves on 32 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-2 loss to the Bridgeport Islanders at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday.

Forwards Raivis Ansons and Tristan Broz each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-4-1-0).

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Islanders on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


Two goals and an assist by forward Kyle Jackson led the Wheeling Nailers to their fourth consecutive win, a 5-2 victory against the Indy Fuel at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forward David Jankowski had a goal and two assists for Wheeling (8-3-1-0) while forward Matty De St. Phalle contributed four assists. Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 30 saves on 32 shots to boost his record to 3-1-1.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Nov. 23, 7:35 p.m.
