Minor league report: Penguins lose in shootout, Nailers win in overtime

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 31 saves on 33 shots in regulation and overtime then allowed one goal on two attempts in a shootout for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 loss to the Utica Comets at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 5-2-1.

Forwards Avery Hayes and Joona Koppanen each scored regulation goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-7-1-1).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Sunday, 3:05 p.m.


Forward Matty De St. Phalle had an overtime goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 win against the Greensboro Gargoyles at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.

De St. Phalle’s goal came at 1:25 of the overtime period.

Forwards Tanner Andrew and Logan Pietila each scored goals for Wheeling (20-6-1-0).

Goaltender Maxim Pavelenko stopped 19 of 21 shots, improving his record to 9-5-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Toledo Walleye on Friday, 7:15 p.m.
