Minor league report: Penguins lose to Checkers in overtime
Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 36 saves on 39 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Charlotte Checkers at WesBanco Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 5-4-2.
Defenseman Nate Clurman and forward Ville Koivunen scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (17-8-3-0).
Checkers forward John Leonard scored the winning goal at 1:12 of overtime.
Highlights:
Per the team’s radio broadcast, Penguins forward Tristan Broz was scratched due to an illness. Earlier in the day, the Penguins traded forward Jagger Joshua to the Rochester Americans for future considerations.
The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.
Two goals and an assist by forward Gabe Klassen led the Wheeling Nailers to their fifth consecutive win, a 5-4 victory against the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk (Va.) Scope.
Forward Atley Calvert had a goal and two assists for Wheeling (23-5-1-0) while forward Sam Houde contributed three assists.
Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 31 saves on 35 shots and boosted his record to 14-2-0.
