Minor league report: Penguins lose to Marlies, Nailers’ winning streak reaches 6

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 18 saves on 20 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Marlies at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 13-7-3. Forward Jonathan Gruden returned to the lineup after missing five games due to an undisclosed injury and scored the only goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (23-16-5-0).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, 7 p.m.

Two goals by defenseman Isaac Belliveau led the Wheeling Nailers to a 6-3 road win against the Cincinnati Cyclones at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

Forwards Cédric Desruisseaux, Matt Koopman and Lukas Svejkjovsky each had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (22-16-1-1), which extended a winning streak to a season-best six games while forward Justin Addamo contributed three assists.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 22 saves on 25 shots and boosted his record to 14-11-1.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
