Minor league report: Penguins’ losing streak reaches 5

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 29 saves on 33 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-3 overtime home loss to the Syracuse Crunch at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Penguins defenseman Ty Smith scored a goal, giving him four points (two goals, two assists) in his last three games since returning from an 18-game absence due to facial fractures.

Forwards Drake Caggiula and Sam Houde each contributed a goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (25-28-7-6) which has lost five consecutive games.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Goaltender Tommy Nappier made 21 saves on 26 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-1 road loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

Forward Cédric Desruisseaux scored the lone goal for Wheeling (26-35-5-0) which has lost three consecutive games.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Cyclones on Sunday, 3 p.m.
