Minor league report: Penguins mauled by Monsters

Goaltender Filip Larsson made 24 saves on 29 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 7-1 loss to the Cleveland Monsters at Rocket Arena in Cleveland on Friday.

The result dropped Larsson’s record to 12-9-3.

Forward Vasily Ponomarev scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (37-20-7-1, 82 points).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Monsters on Saturday, 7 p.m.


Two goals and an assist by forward Gabe Klassen led the Wheeling Nailers to a 6-3 win against the Reading Royals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Linemate David Jankowski added a goal and three assists for Wheeling (40-23-3-1, 84 points) while defenseman Brent Johnson contributed a goal and an assist in his professional debut.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 25 saves on 28 shots to boost his mark to 16-10-2 while the Nailers extended a winning streak to four games.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Royals on Sunday, 7:10 p.m.
