Minor league report: Penguins, Nailers both lose

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 19 saves on 21 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 road loss to the rival Hershey Bears at the Giant Center in Hershey on Friday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 16-8-5.

Forward Jonathan Gruden scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (26-18-7-1).

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Bridgeport Islanders on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.


Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 21 saves on 25 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-3 home loss to the Fort Wayne Komets at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

The result dropped Castor’s record to 6-4-0.

Forwards Matthew Quercia, Tanner Laderoute and defenseman Sebastian Dirven all scored goals for Wheeling (29-19-1-1).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
