Minor league report: Penguins, Sergei Murashov conquer Comets

Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 29 saves on 30 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 2-1 win against the Utica Comets at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

The result improved Murahsov’s record at the American Hockey League level to 3-0-0.

Forwards Rutger McGroarty and Vasily Ponomarev each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (21-10-4-0).

Highlights:

Prior to the game, the Penguins assigned defenseman Isaac Belliveau to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Sunday, 3:05 p.m.


Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 28 saves on 35 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 7-1 loss to the Kansas City Mavericks at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The result dropped Castor’s record at the ECHL level to 3-1-1.

Forward Kyle Jackson scored the lone goal for Wheeling (27-8-2-0).

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Mavericks on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
