Minor league report: Penguins shut out by Checkers

Goaltender Tommy Nappier made 27 saves on 30 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins who were shut out at home by the Charlotte Checkers, 4-0, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

It was the second time this season that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (6-6-0-1) has been shut out this season.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Forward Patrick Watling had two goals and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-4 home loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Goaltender Evan Moyse made 33 saves on 38 shots for Wheeling (4-4-0-0) while forward Nick Hutchison added a goal and an assist.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
