Minor league report: Penguins shut out Phantoms in Vasily Ponomarev's debut
Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 23 saves to record his first career shutout in the American Hockey League as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 3-0, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
The result improved Blomqvist’s record to 18-9-5.
Forward Jagger Joshua scored two goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (30-20-7-1) while linemate Corey Andonovski recorded two assists.
In his Penguins debut, forward Vasily Ponomarev — acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on March 7 — opened the contest centering the second line and recorded two shots.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 29 saves on 32 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Iowa Heartlanders at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
The result dropped his record to 22-17-1.
Forwards Tanner Laderoute and defenseman Justin Lee each scored goals for Wheeling (32-24-2-1).
