Minor league report: Penguins, Tristan Jarry fall to Checkers

Goaltender Tristan Jarry made 25 saves on 28 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday.

The result dropped Jarry’s record at the American Hockey League level to 5-3-0.

Forward Vasily Ponomarev recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (23-11-4-0) which had a three-game winning streak halted while forwards Ville Koivunen and Sam Poulin each contributed goals.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Checkers on Saturday, 6 p.m.


A goal by forward Matt Koopman 48 seconds into overtime gave the Wheeling Nailers a 4-3 win against the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

Forwards Matty De St. Phalle and Gabe Klassen as well as defenseman Isaac Belliveau each had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (27-10-2-0) while goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 31 saves on 34 shots, boosting his record to 9-5-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, 7:35 p.m.
